'Black Oystercatcher Family' is an original woodblock print by Yumi Kawaguchi, of Dogwood Studio Alaska, that measures approximately 12" x 12". It is part of a series of prints Yumi created about her experience at the Gruening Cabin in Juneau, AK through the 2021 Alaska State Parks Artist-in-Residence Program.
Inspired by nature, Yumi creates art by hand pressing hand-carved woodblocks onto Japanese papers, Washi, through a traditional woodcut printmaking process. Each print is original with slight variations based on ink applications and multiple layers of different colors.
