This is a reproduction of my woodcut print titled " What's that Pierce ".
Yumi digitally captured the image of original woodcut print and printed on a beautiful Inkjet Japanese BambooPaper. The originals are sold out.
"One of the rewards living in the far north is viewing northern lights almost every night when the sky is clear (and when it gets dark). It usually starts appearing as an arc in the northern sky. If the arc gets two or more, there is a big chance to see the light dancing high in the sky. Even a porcupine and a snowshoe hare are getting excited to see the lights' "break up." I made this image remembering the nights I watched northern lights with my dog, Pierce, while we took walks. Pierce appears in my art works quite often." - Yumi Kawaguchi.
For creating original image, Yumi hand carved and hand printed it as reduction, using one wood block total for 10 colors (9 layers of colors). She placed the lightest color first, then carved the block to the areas which she wanted to print the second color. Yumi repeated this process until the block has only the area for the last color, black.
