Most North Pacific humpbacks spending summer in Alaska migrate to Hawaii, some to Mexico, to breed and calve in winter. Many Alaska residents take trips there to escape from the extreme cold in winter, too.
For creating the original image, Yumi hand-carved four Baltic birch woodblocks and inked each block in blue gradation, pale blue, and pale pink. Four layers of colors printed on Japanese paper Kozo made this final image.
